The City of Hamilton is hoping that a new recruitment initiative will attract more women to come and work for its transit service.

During the month of March, the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) is recruiting bus operators with the hope of bringing more women on board.

A special virtual information night is scheduled for next Tuesday (March 8) which is geared towards women’s experience in transit.

“The event is open to everyone but will focus on women’s experiences in the transit industry and at HSR,” a City of Hamilton Tweet announcing the event said.

“As HSR begins recruiting operators…one of its goals is to encourage more women to pursue a career in transit and continue to build a workforce that reflects our community.”

The HSR currently operates a fleet of 267 buses on 35 routes throughout Hamilton.

The event is free to watch on the City’s YouTube channel and runs from 1 to 2:30 pm on March 8 and will feature a panel of women who work for the HSR as bus operators.

In the meantime, all interested applicants may want to check out the very detailed job posting on the City’s website.

The transit provider will be accepting applications starting Thursday (March 3) up until March 23.
