Dwight the cat has been reunited with his family a week after he was taken from his family’s home in East Hamilton.

According to aFacebook post shared by Dwight’s family, the friendly feline was found in a neighbourhood behind Valley Park in Upper Stoney Creek.

“Hi everyone dwight has been found and I have him at home with me,” said Carlo Belforte in the post announcing Dwight’s return,

“I can’t thank you all enough with help us find him and looking for him, every one of you are amazing thank you thank you so so much and this boy is getting spoiled forever.”

Last week, the Belforte family and friends took to social media to ask for help in finding Dwight after home video surveillance allegedly showed their pet was picked up and taken away by a man who delivered their pizza a few days earlier.

“He was on the porch…like we have it on video,” Rebecca Belforte told Global News at the time. “He delivered the pizza, and then went out of his way to put the pizza bag back in the car and then come up and scoop our cat.”

The family said when they contacted the pizza place they were put into contact with the driver who, they said, told them he let the cat go in the area of Gordon Drummond and Kennard Street in Upper Stoney Creek.

The family believes the cat slipped out of the house when they answered the door to pay for the pizza.

The family’s pleas for help went viral and 12-year-old Dwight’s plight made headlines and mobilized hundreds of people and groups within the community to help the Belfortes find their beloved pet.

In updates since he was found, Dwight’s family said he appears in good health and will be seeing the vet in the coming days.
