Thirteen years after the release of their debut album, Jackson Square, Hamilton rockers Arkells are basking in the glow of Blink Once, their sixth studio album, and preparing for a world tour that will take them up and down and across North America before finishing in Europe next fall.

The band may have indie rock roots from Hamilton’s hard scrabble streets, but they’re pop rock stars now – one of the country’s biggest – and they play arenas and stadium shows, including an upcoming show at Tim Horton’s Field in Hamilton next June that’s dubbed ‘The Rally,’ after their 2015 album Rally Cry.

That’s a far cry from the small clubs they played to promote that first album, released October 28, 2008, but a testament to the success the multiple Juno Award-winning band has enjoyed since.

The new album, which was “80 per cent”written prior to the pandemic and then finished in Toronto this year, features several singles gaining some media attention, including One Thing I Know, All Roads and You Can Get It, which features vocals from K. Flay.

The Blink Once Tour kicks with three shows in Buffalo in January before heading west to Vancouver for a Canadian tour that takes them back to southern Ontario – including shows in Oshawa February 19 and the June 25 concert in Hamilton.

The band will take the summer off from touring before heading to Europe for a whirlwind tour that will see them play 11 dates in three countries over 13 days.
