The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Tuesday the CFL club has bolstered their defensive back unit with the signing of American Javien Elliott to a two-year deal.

The 29-year-old started four games for the Stampeders in 2022, registering eight defensive tackles. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound native of Panama City, Florida, played five games over two seasons with the Stampeders (2021-22), registering 12 defensive tackles.

Elliot, a perennial underdog, has earned respect at every level. The Florida State University product went unrecruited and undrafted on his way to being an NFL starter.

Elliot originally signed with the National Football League’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent. He played 36 games, including seven starts, over three seasons (2016-18).

Elliott also played 16 games in his lone season with the Carolina Panthers in 2019.

He finished his NFL stint with 77 tackles, half a quarterback sack, four pass deflections, and two interceptions.
