Hamilton Tiger-Cats add wide receiver, defensive back

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are taking a second look at receiver Kahlil Lewis, while also bringing in defensive back Cortez Davis.

The Canadian Football League club announced the signings of the two 25-year-old American players on Friday. Lewis spent training camp with the Tiger-Cats in 2021.

Lewis, a five-foot-10, 190-pound native of Miramar, Fla., was most recently with the Philadelphia Stars in the new USFL spring league. Prior to his tryout in Hamilton two seasons ago, he spent time with the Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks of the NFL in 2019, and was also part of the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks in 2020. In his college football days, he had 2,116 yards (with a 12.6 average) and 21 touchdowns over four seasons with the Cincinnati Bearcats of the American Athletic Conference.

Davis was most recently with the the D.C. Defenders of the XFL. He also had NFL trials with the Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos.

The five-foot-11, 180-pound native of Decatur, Ga., is two seasons removed from his collegiate playing days with the Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors in the Mountain West conference. In 36 games across three seasons (2019-21) at Hawai’i, Davis registering 131 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, one quarterback sack, two interceptions, 34 passes defensed and three forced fumbles. Davis also played 10 games for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (2016-17) before transferring to Itawamba Community College.
