Tensions in the Middle-East could reverberate in Hamilton, police say

Police are searching for a suspect who stabbed a 15-year-old student in Hamiton during a targeted robbery on Wednesday.

Shortly before 6 p.m., Hamilton Police said that they are investigating an attack that occurred near Saltfleet Secondary School, which is in the suburb of Stoney Creek. The 15-year-old was taken into hospital and is in serious condition.

Information was preliminary. Deputy Police Chief Ryan Diodati referred to the attack while addressing city councillors during a general issues committee (GIC) meeting.

Hamilton had five killings in 2022, which was below the city’s historical norm. Police Chief Frank Bergen, who was presenting the case for the Hamilton Police budget to the GIC, said the city ranks fifth among major Ontario municipalities in the serious crime index. Thunder Bay, Greater Sudbury, London and Brantford are the top four.
