Entreprenuer Bob Young is the main investor, or caretaker, in his term, in the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Forge FC.

The partnership that will run football’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats, soccer’s Forge FC and other events at Tim Hortons Field has earned final approval.

On Tuesday, Hamilton Sports Group (HSG) announced it has obtained all approvals on its new partnership, which was initially announced in January. Bob Young remains the chair and single largest shareholder, while the other partners are senior sports executives Scott Mitchell and Jim Lawson, as well as Hamilton-based company Stelco Holdings.

Mitchell is chief executive officer of the Tiger-Cats and Forge. Lawson is CEO of Woodbine Entertainment)

The boards of governors of both the Canadian Football League and Canadian Premier League had already approved the partnership. The last piece of the puzzle was the City of Hamilton approving the official transfer of the master licence agreement with Tim Hortons Field to HSG.

“It is a great pleasure to officially welcome Stelco and their chairman and CEO Alan Kestenbaum, my great friend and colleague Scott Mitchell from the Ticats, who was also my co-founder of the CPL and CSB, as well as Jim Lawson, CEO of Woodbine Entertainment as owners and board members of HSG,” Young stated.
“Their participation will help ensure both that the Ticats and Forge FC will continue to prosper in Hamilton for another 100 years and that we do so very successfully on the field.”

The stadium has had a run of major events over the last few months. The Tiger-Cats hosted and played in the CFL’s 108th Grey Cup in December. The NHL’s Tim Hortons Heritage Classic, along with CONCACAF and FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches, have also been held there this winter.
Big events coming up at Tim Hortons Field include the Canadian Championship between Forge FC and Toronto FC on June 4, the Nitro Circus and a special performance by The Arkells in the month of June.
The Tiger-Cats will also host the 110th Grey Cup in 2023.
