Hamilton senior and dog killed in east end hit-and-run; Police seek suspect vehicle

Hamilton Police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate after a man and his dog were killed in a hit-and-run in east Hamilton on Sunday (Jan. 30).

Police said in a press release issued Monday afternoon (Jan. 31) that a 70-year-old man and his dog were crossing Lawrence Road Sunday at approximately 8:30 p.m. when the driver of an eastbound motor vehicle struck them both.

Police said the driver then fled the scene.

Hamilton Paramedics transported the man to the Hamilton General Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The dog succumbed to injuries on scene.

This is the city’s first traffic fatality of 2022.

The service’s Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken carriage of the investigation.

According to police, the suspect vehicle is believed to be a white Chevrolet and it will have notable damage to the front end.
