One day after a video of a road-rage incident in Hamilton where a racist slur was used went viral, the police say they are seeking witnesses to a “hate incident.”

Monday, a video posted by 6ixBuzzTV showed the video of a shouting match between two male drivers, one of whom had got out of his car at a red light while it was behind a Hamilton city bus. The video was taken from the point of view of the other driver. The latter says the other driver, a middle-aged man, directed the N-word at his wife.

On Tuesday morning, the Hamilton Anti-Racism Resource Centre said they had reported the incident to Hamilton Police (HPS). Ten minutes later, HPS said it had become aware of the incident on Monday, and is asking witnesses to come forward.

The police account reads, “(The incident is) believed to have taken place in the area of Main Street East and Ottawa St N. The content of the video shows a male aggressively approaching the occupants of a vehicle. He accuses the driver of cutting him off and makes a derogatory slur towards the unknown couple as he moves back towards his vehicle. The male is driving a grey Nissan Sentra.”

Any victims or witnesses to these incidents can contact Hamilton Police hate crime Det. Fabiano Mendes (905-546-5678).
