Hamilton residents beware: Scammers are calling about unpaid fines

A new scam targeting Hamilton residents tries to trick people into paying for bogus parking tickets.

Those who have been on the receiving end get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the City of Hamilton.

The scammer tells the potential victim that they have unpaid parking tickets or fines. The person demands immediate payment under threats that legal action will be taken.

According to a statement released by the City of Hamilton, the calls are not from the City or from the Hamilton Provincial Offences Office.

“They should be ignored,” the statement reads.

People who have been targeted can also report the incident to Hamilton officials at 905-546-2489.
