Hamilton rec centre to reopen after 4 months of ‘robust’ upgrades
Published December 6, 2022 at 2:37 pm
After closing in August for what the city called a “robust preventative maintenance program,” Central Memorial Recreation Centre in Hamilton is set to reopen on Dec. 12 for drop-in programs.
Because the reopening is so close to the holidays, registered programs that were relocated will continue at Norman Pinky Lewis Recreation Complex and Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre for the remainder of the fall season.
Registration for winter programs will open on Dec. 7 at 8 a.m. It can be done online at hamilton.ca/registration.
This type of preventative maintenance helps to ensure this facility will meet the needs of the community in the years to come. Drop in programs will be available starting December 12. To minimize disruptions in service and programming, the city chose all required work at Central Memorial Recreation Centre to be completed at one-time.
The scope of work included:
- Deep cleaning and grouting of the pool
- Grouting of the men’s shower area
- Stripping and refinishing of the gym floor
- Scraping and painting of the beams over the pool
- Painting bench legs in changing rooms
- Painting the craft room wall
- Parking lot resurfacing
- Upgrades to the fire alarm system
- Elevator modernization (replacement of equipment, accessibility upgrades and interior cab finishes)
“This work is part of a robust preventative maintenance program,” said the city. “Building condition assessments are performed every five to seven years to determine when maintenance or larger capital replacement work is required.
Central Memorial Recreation Centre is located near the lower-city access off Victoria Ave.
