Hamilton power outage leaves hundreds in a blackout

Crews are working to restore power to hundreds of residents in Hamilton after a weather-related blackout on Thursday (Dec. 16).

Just before 11:00 a.m., Alectra said on Twitter that approximately 858 homes and businesses in the area of Fruitland Rd. and Barton St. were without power.

Alectra Utilities said the outage is currently in the community of Stoney Creek in the Margaret Ave. to Lewis Rd., and some 421 customers are being impacted.

Crews have been sent to make repairs and Alectra said it expects service to be restored around 3:00 p.m.

A special weather statement for Hamilton was issued just before 11:00 a.m. for strong winds gusting between 70 and 90 km/h.
