Hamilton Police seek help to ID car seen near scene of fatal shooting

Hamilton Police are looking to identify a car spotted near the scene of a shooting over the weekend that resulted in the city’s first homicide in 2022.

In an update on the investigation on Monday (March 7), police also said the victim has been identified but they were still working to notify the man’s next of kin.

The shooting happened just before 6 p.m. on Sunday in the area of Tisdale Street and Erie Avenue in central Hamilton.

When police arrived, the man was found on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Hamilton Police Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation and is currently sharing the following suspect vehicle information in connection with the case:

  • Black or dark-coloured BMW 4-door sedan
  • Silver wheel rims

“Witnesses reported a black sedan driving down the street and then the discovery of the male victim,” a police media release said.

“At this time, investigators do not have any suspect(s) descriptions available.”

Residents in the area of the shooting are being told to ecpect an increased police presence in the area as they continue to canvass the neighbourhood for witnesses and video.
