Hamilton Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man wanted in connection to an incident at a Canadian Tire in the city’s downtown where an employee was allegedly threatened with a handsaw.

In a press release issued Friday (Feb. 11), police said the incident occurred on Jan. 22 shortly before 8 p.m.

Police said the man entered the store, located at Main Street E and Victoria Avenue, and when an employee approached to help, the man allegedly picked up a 12-inch handsaw and started swinging it in the employee’s face.

When the man was asked to leave the store, police say he refused and a call was made to 9-11.

While on the phone with emergency dispatch, police said the suspect then cut the phone line with the handsaw and ran out of the store, dropping the saw on his way out.

Police have released a security cam image from the incident in the hopes of learning the suspect’s identity.

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect’s identity is asked to contact Detective Constable Tom Kersgens by calling 905-546-3817.
