Hamilton police investigating two indecent exposure cases on trails

Hamilton police have launched two investigation into instances of indecent exposure on local hiking trails.

The first incident occurred on July 11 around 8:30 a.m. A man approached the victim on the trails near Sulphur Springs Rd and Mineral Springs Rd and exposed himself.

The victim ran from the area and the suspect took off the other direction. Police describe the man as Black in his late 30’s or early 40’s with a thin build and short black hair. He stand 6′ tall and was wearing a blue t-shirt.

That same day around 9:30 p.m. a second man whipped it out in front of a victim on the Mountain Brow Path by East 36th St.

Police describe this suspect as brown, standing about 5’10” with a medium build. He has a short beard, short black hair and was wearing a black t-shirt and shorts.

In both of these indecent act the suspect started talking to the victim and then exposed themselves. While both indecencies happened on the same day, police do not believe they are related. Both are being investigated separately.

Investigators have requested anyone with information about these crimes to come forward. They’d also requested for anyone with video of the area at the time to contacts police.

Hamilton police also offered some advice to those on the city’s trails;

  • Walk or run along trails with a partner
  • Tell someone the route you are taking and how you will be gone
  • Avoid poorly lit paths when it is dark
  • Stick to populated paths when alone
  • Carry a cellphone and/or a personal alarm device
  • Don’t use headphones
  • If you are confronted, be loud and shout for help
