Hamilton Police investigate overnight shooting on west mountain

Residents on Hamilton’s west mountain will see an increased police presence on Tuesday (Aug. 24) as officers investigate an overnight shooting.

In a press release, Hamilton Police said they were called to the area of West 18th Street, between Mohawk and Sanatorium Roads, shortly before 3 a.m. to reports of gunshots.

“Upon arrival, officers immediately secured the area and searched for anyone involved; however, they had fled the scene,” the release said,

“Through continued investigation, police confirmed a shooting incident had occurred”.

Police said no injuries have been reported and checks at local hospitals turned up nothing.

The Division 3 Criminal Investigation Branch has taken over the investigation and detectives are asking residents in the area to check security cameras for any suspicious activity and to contact police.
