Hamilton Police said Wednesday (May 5) that they have arrested and charged a fourth person in connection to the murder of a local man in February.

In a press release, police said the fourth accused, identified as 38-year-old Daniel Holland, was arrested Tuesday afternoon at his central Hamilton home and charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death to 30-year-old Tommy Hoang.

On Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at approximately 11:00 p.m., polie say Hoang visited the apartment of an acquaintance, Madeline Peternel, at 646 Main Street East.

Upon arrival, Hoang was reportedly invited inside where he was ambushed by Peternel, and two men. These men have been identified as Jason Long and Robyn Cove.

Long and Peternel then reportedly stole Hoang’s car keys and drove his car to his home where they broke in and stole a quantity of cash and valuables, while Cove remained behind and prevented Hoang from leaving the apartment where he was ambushed.

Police were eventually called to the Main Street East apartment where the attack took place to reports of a disturbance.

When police arrived, the suspects had fled the scene and Hoang was found and was rushed to hospital.

Hoang was eventually placed on life support until he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, February 27, 2021.

Peternel, Long and Cove were arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

A second woman, identified by police as Jamie Lee McMaster, was also charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder for her role in aiding Long to evade arrest.

Holland was initially arrested, interviewed and released unconditionally in the very early days of the investigation, however, police said, it was in its infancy.

“It was determined that Holland had misled investigators during his initial police interview,” police said in the press release.

“Evidence unveiled during the ongoing investigation contradicted much of Holland’s claims. This led investigators to form the grounds that he in fact participated in Hoang’s death despite not being present at the start of the incident.”
