The Special Investigations Unit has cleared an officer with the Hamilton Police Service after a mentally ill man suffered a head injury during an arrest.

Hamilton Police stopped a car today (January 23) at 1:20 pm and busted a couple holding a handgun.

Police stopped their vehicle on Barnesdale Avenue North and after a quick car inspection, they found a loaded 9mm firearm. A 9mm gun is a hand pistol with a typical example (not the one in this instance) shown below.

The male driver and female passenger, both well known to Hamilton police, were arrested and charged with a variety of firearm offences and held for a bail hearing.
