Hamilton police arrest person with a firearm, SIU investigating

Hamilton police arrested a suspect with a firearm early Thursday morning.
The suspect was arrested in the area of Main Street East and Victoria Avenue North shortly before 1 a.m., Hamilton Police Service said in a tweet on Sept. 8.
Police added that the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked their mandate. The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency in Ontario that has jurisdiction over municipal, regional and provincial police officers.
The SIU investigates police when a person dies, sustains serious injury, sexual assault or when a firearm is discharged.
A large police presence is expected in the area as the investigation continues.
