Hamilton Police have arrested a man in connection to the fatal home invasion and kidnapping in Mount Hope in September.

Police said Friday (Oct. 8) that 25-year-old Antoine Chambers of Hamilton has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Hasnain (Nano) Ali.

Chambers, who police said was arrested the night of the shooting, has also been charged with attempted murder, kidnapping and aggravated assault and is facing numerous firearm charges.

The incident in question happened on September 16, 2021, at approximately 2:55 a.m., when Hamilton Police were called to a home on Glancaster Road in Mount Hope to reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found two men in their 20s suffering from gunshot wounds. They were transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where Hasnain succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

In the meantime, Hasnain’s father, Faqir Ali, was forcibly taken from the home in a dark SUV. A police search commenced and hours later, Ali was found severely beaten near the lift bridge on Beach Boulevard.

At a media briefing on Friday, Det. Sgt. Steve Bereziuk said the suspects in the case appear to have been motivated by money.

Police said Chambers remains in custody and is expected to be back in court for a brief appearance on October 13, 2021.

Investigators said the search continues for two more suspects in the case.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Lisa Chambers by calling 905-546-4843.
