The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO) returns to the stage this month with a whole season of programming planned and a free concert scheduled for late September.

The Fall portion of HPO’s 21-22 Season runs from September through December and features full-orchestra performances at FirstOntario Concert Hall, in the community and online.

“My seventh season with this fantastic orchestra will be one filled with joy and celebration as we reunite once more to share live music together,” said music director Gemma New, in a press release.

“Featuring renowned Canadian soloists and HPO musicians alike, our concerts will renew our spirit through works that move us and inspire.”

Starting Friday (Sept. 10), tickets go on sale for HPO’s Fall 2021 concerts.

Six shows are scheduled, two of which are already sold out, including a free one at FirstOntario Concert Hall on September 25, which will also be available to watch via live stream on HPO’s YouTube channel.

This will be the first time since February 2020 that the orchestra performs on the Concert Hall stage with an audience.

“This concert is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Hamilton and show our gratitude to be a part of this city,” said HPO board chair Steve Lloyd in a press release.

“After 18 months without in-person concerts, our musicians are thrilled to come together and make music again before a live audience.”

In-person attendees will be required to register beforehand for the performance at the Concert Hall, which, under normal circumstances can accommodate more than 2,000 people.

“The health and safety of our patrons, musicians and staff remain a top priority,” said executive director Kim Varian, in the release.

“We continue to monitor guidance provided by the Province, the City and our venue partners at Spectra Entertainment and will keep our ticketholders informed of updates.”

Ticketholders will be required to provide proof of full vaccination and wear a mask and a six-foot distance will be maintained between the seats of each household at the venues.

The announcement of 2022 concerts will follow later in the Fall.
