A downtown Hamilton nightclub, among other spots in the city, will soon be on screen in a feature film that stars a “Flight of the Conchords” cast member.

On Monday, “Relax, I’m From The Future,” a sci-fi comedy feature directed and written by Canadian creative Luke Higginson, was filming at the Absinthe nightclub on King William Street. The production, which co-stars New Zealand actor-comedian Rhys Darby of “Conchords” fame and Canadian performer Gabrielle Graham, has shot at several locations in Hamilton.

Exterior scenes, depicting both chases and ball hockey, were also recently staged in Ancaster on Clarendon Drive and Hill Crest.

On IMDB.com, the plot synopsis reads: “A man from the future, now trapped in the past, tries to make a life for himself, oblivious to the consequences he has set in motion.”

Higginson, who is a first-time director, also made a 2013 short film of the same name. It was shown in the Toronto International Film Festival.

On “Conchords,” which earned critical acclaim and a cult following during its two-season run, the ginger-haired Darby played Murray Hewitt, the titular band’s inept manager. The series earned 10 Emmy nominations during its two-season run. Darby’s fifth comedy special, “Rhys Darby: Mystic Time Bird,” recently debuted on Amazon Prime Video.

Graham stars on “Twenties,” a comedy series on Black Entertainment Television created by Emmy-winning writer Lena Waithe. The series is in its second season.

“Relax, I’m From The Future” is being produced by Tim Doiron and James van der Woerd from Wango Films.
