Hamilton mountain school placed under hold and secure by police

A high school on Hamilton's west mountain was placed under hold and secure Wednesday afternoon; used by police when it's believed there's an external threat.

A high school on Hamilton’s west mountain was placed under hold and secure Wednesday afternoon.

Police announced the move just after 2 p.m. at Sir Allan MacNab, located on Magnolia Dr., near Mohawk Rd.

Specifics were not released, but the police say the hold and secure was precautionary.

Unlike a lockdown procedure, where there is an internal threat that needs containment, hold and secure is used by police when it’s believed an external threat.

The hold and secure was lifted approximately 35 minutes later.
