Hamilton men accused in Dundas daylight shooting have charges upgraded

Hamilton Police have upgraded the charges against two local men involved in a brazen daylight shooting in Dundas last week that sent a man to hospital.

Police said 31-year-old Rebaz Resh, from Hamilton, is now facing the following charges (* indicates upgraded charges):

  • Attempt to cause death with a firearm*
  • Aggravated assault causing a wound*
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Occupant of a vehicle with a weapon
  • Discharge firearm with intent to wound
  • Point firearm
  • Prohibited firearm
  • Possession contrary to order

The second accused in the case, 32-year-old Youcef Guendouz, also from Hamilton is facing the following charges:

  • Aggravated assault causing a wound*
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Occupant of a vehicle with a weapon
  • Discharge firearm with intent to wound*

The incident in question occurred on Thursday, November 25, 2021, when shortly after 9:30 a.m. police received several 911 calls reporting an active shooting in the area of Old Guelph Road and York Road.

When police arrived, they found a 22-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital where he has since been treated and released.

Two other men were seen by officers trying to flee the scene on foot but both were promptly apprehended and placed under arrest.

Police believe that this was a targeted incident and said that the accused and the victim are known to each other. There are no further suspects being sought, police said.

As these matters are now before the court, police said no additional details will be released.
