Hamilton man suffers medical episode while driving, crashes car

A man is in hospital tonight after he suffered a medical episode while driving and crashed his car.

The man, 53 of Hamilton, was driving his Kia Soul eastbound down Main St. When he approached Grant Ave, his car suddenly left the road and crashed in a fire hydrant and a light pole.

Hamilton EMS and Fire crews rushed to the scene and the man was whisked to hospital. Police learned in the course of their investigation that the man experienced an unspecified medical event which caused the crash.

The driver reman in hospital in serious, but stable condition. Police remain unaware whether speed or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
