Hamilton man plans to buy new lawnmower with joint lotto win

A Hamilton man is celebrating a big lotto win that he’ll share with a friend from Brantford.
OLG recently announced that saying “yes” to Encore paid off for Mark Johnston of Lynden (part of Flamborough) and Derek Johnston.
They matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in the exact order in the May 9, 2023 Lotto Max draw to win $100,000.
The two men, who work in the printing industry together, told OLG that they always send each other pictures of their tickets and jokingly say, “Is this the winning ticket?”
Derek says he discovered their big win after checking their ticket on the OLG App.
“I was shocked but happy,” he told OLG. “I texted Mark to tell him about the win and he didn’t answer. His wife had to wake him up!”

The pair said their families are excited about their win.
“Our coworkers want to know when the pizza party is,” Derek said.
Mark plans to pay some bills and buy a new lawnmower, and Derek plans to purchase a new set of golf clubs.
The winning ticket was purchased at Good Luck Variety on Dunsdon Street in Brantford.
