A 65-year-old man from Hamilton died after he was struck by a pickup truck driver in Brant County.

The fatal collision occurred shortly after 12 a.m. on Sunday, and the driver of the truck, who did not remain on-scene, is being encouraged to contact to the Ontario Provincial Police. The Brant County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say that about 1:21 a.m., its officers and paramedics from Oxford County were called to a Muir Rd. N. address after a report of an individual laying in the roadway.

Kevin Lee Taylor, of Hamilton, was pronounced dead at the scene. It was determined that he was struck on Muir Rd. N. by a motor vehicle.

The police say that the driver’s vehicle will be a Ford pickup truck with damage to the front right corner and will be missing a passenger mirror. A media release did not mention the colour of the truck.

Dashcam footage, and eyewitness accounts, help collision reconstruction experts determine when (and what kind of) criminal charges are warranted when a driver hits a pedestrian.

The investigators with OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) are interested in hearing from the following people:

  • Anyone that may have been travelling through the area of Muir Rd. N. between Second Concession Rd. and Third Concession Rd. between 12 a.m., and 1:20 a.m. on Sept. 25 and may have they observed anything suspicious. They can contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
  • Community residents in the surrounding area are also being asked to check their security surveillance cameras to see if they captured the vehicle or pedestrian involved.
