Hamilton man in custody after shooting in Stoney Creek

Hamilton police have arrested a man in what they believe was a targeted shooting in Stoney Creek early on Wednesday (July 28).

Shortly after 6:45 a.m., Hamilton Police Service officers responded to the area of Centennial Parkway and QEW Niagara after receiving reports of a shooting.

A 40-year-old male was located and had sustained injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect(s) fled on foot to 524 Centennial Parkway North to which they made demands to a male transport truck driver, subsequently taking the vehicle and fleeing the area.

Through continued investigation, police learned the suspect abandon the stolen vehicle and fled into a residence in the area of Royce Avenue.

After negotiation the accused was safety arrested.

A 24-year-old male has been arrested for various firearm related offences. He is being held in custody for a bail hearing scheduled on Thursday (July 29) and HPS is not yet identifying him.
