Hamilton man facing fraud charges after telecom scam at Burlington’s Mapleview Centre

A Hamilton man is facing fraud charges after a Halton police investigation into a telecom communications employee working at Mapleview Shopping Centre in Burlington.

Between November 2021 and February 2022, it’s alleged an employee made numerous fraudulent transactions, including using bogus information to facilitate sales, the manipulation of point of sales devices and selling cellular devices for cash (which was then pocketed).

Due to these fraudulent transactions, more than 120 cellular devices were lost. The monetary value of the frauds is in excess of $185,000.

Amar Abbas, 24, of Hamilton is facing charges of fraud over $5,000. He was released on an undertaking.
