Hamilton man faces murder charge after death in east end

A 24-year-old Hamilton man has been charged with second-degree murder, following the death of another young man who was reportedly hit by a driver on purpose.

The charge comes after a man died near Barton and Covington streets. Around 4:10 a.m. on Monday (Dec. 13), the Hamilton Police Service received a 911 call that a 22-year-old male had been intentionally struck in an apartment parking lot. First responders attempted life-saving measures but the male succumbed to his injuries.

The accused was arrested by responding officers at the scene.

Junaid Mohamed Nizami, 24, has been charged with second-degree Murder.

The victim and the accused were known to each other. The HPS says the extent of their relationship is still under investigation, and detectives are continuing to investigate the motive.

The name of the victim has been withheld until his family has a chance to notify next of kin, the HPS said.

Public patience, assistance requested

A heavy police presence will remain around 2520 Barton St. as police ask the public conduct their investigation. Officers continue to canvass for witnesses and video.
