A Hamilton man has been charged after a crash that killed a motorcyclist last week near Port Dover, police say.

Ontario Provincial Police said that shortly before 7 a.m. on Friday, emergency crews responded to the scene of a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV on Thompson Road East in Norfolk County.

The motorcyclist died at the scene. Police said the victim was a 23-year-old resident of Oxford County.

The crash happened on Friday the 13th, with the traditional motorcycle rally taking place in Port Dover. It is not clear, however, if the motorcyclist who died was heading to the rally. The collision happened approximately 20 minutes away from Port Dover.

The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital, police said.

In an update, the OPP said an arrest was made on Sunday in connection with the case.

Hamilton resident Ahmad Hammadeh, 19, has been charged with dangerous operation causing death.

“Accused individuals are not always arrested immediately after an incident,” Const. Andrew Gamble told INsauga.com

“Sometimes, it takes time to piece together all the elements of the investigation before an arrest can be made. This process ensures that all the evidence is thoroughly reviewed, and that the investigation is conducted comprehensively.”

Hammadeh was held in custody pending a bail hearing on Monday.
