A man from Hamilton has been charged more than a month after a fatal car crash in the city.

A Ford pick-up truck was driving north Parkdale Ave. toward Burland Cr. around 10 a.m. September 13. The area is a moderately busy industrial area just southwest of the Skyway.

As the Ford approached, a 70-year-old man was riding his Yamaha Majesty scooter south toward the same intersection. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

Earlier reports indicate the truck was making a left turn when it struck the scooter. “The 70-year-old man suffered significant injuries and was transported to hospital by paramedics,” police said at the time, “Despite efforts by paramedics and hospital staff, the male succumbed to his injuries.”

It was the sixteenth fatal collision in Hamilton of the year.

On October 27, Hamilton Police Service charged the driver, 24 from Hamilton, with careless driving, unsafe operation and driving a vehicle without a valid permit.

The driver will appear in court on December 7. Anyone witnesses who have not spoken to police can call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-546-4753, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
