A Hamilton man was busted yesterday (June 26) after streets had to be closed down because he was holding explosives.

Just before 7:30 pm, Hamilton Police responded to a call in the Ottawa Street North and Cannon Street East area of the city.

They quickly discovered that he appeared to have “an explosive device” so they quickly secured the area, shut the roadway, evacuated residents of the street before putting the overflow of civilians in a shelter.

The Explosive Disposal Unit was called in. They examined the device and safely recovered it.

The man has been charged with making/possessing explosives for unlawful purposes and uttering threats involving death and bodily harm.

Afterwards, the police thanked the briefly-displaced community “for their patience during this investigation.”
