A Hamilton male was arrested after a Pride rainbow crosswalk was painted over with graffiti, just hours after it was installed in Waterdown on May 13.

A 17-year-old male from Hamilton was arrested after a Pride rainbow crosswalk was painted over with graffiti, just hours after it was installed near the Waterdown District High School entrance on May 13.

Hamilton Police say the incident occurred shortly before midnight.

“Hate crime in Hamilton is not acceptable. Left unchecked, it can have a far-reaching impact on communities,” issued Hamilton Police. “Hate crimes can be reported online.”

Police added that the matter is before the courts and they will not be providing further information.
