Hamilton has 11 neighbourhoods with high COVID-19 positivity rates

A whopping 11 areas in Hamilton are among those with the highest COVID-19 percent positivity rates (percentage of positive COVID-19 tests in the area) in Ontario.

Toronto-based research group ICES listed postal code areas in Ontario with the highest percent positivity rates for the week of August 15 to 21.

Of the top 50 listed, 11 are in Hamilton:

L8H at 12.73%
7th highest percent positivity

L8N at 9.60%
16th highest percent positivity

L9A at 9.23%
18th highest percent positivity

L8L at 9.04%
20th highest percent positivity

L9B at 8.79%
23rd highest percent positivity

L8W at 8.41%
28th highest percent positivity

L8R at 8.28%
29th highest percent positivity

L8V at 8.11%
31st highest percent positivity

L8P at 8.05%
32nd highest percent positivity

L8K at 7.96%
33rd highest percent positivity

L8J at 7.83%
35th highest percent positivity

The same data for the week indicates that out of all of Ontario’s 34 public health units, Hamilton has the third worst COVID-19 positivity in the province.

For all Ontario residents, the overall percent positivity among those tested for COVID-19 during the week of August 15 was 2.9%, up 0.6% from the previous week.

According to ICES, the overall percent positivity in Ontario has increased steadily over the past month, with five public health units having the highest positivity: Windsor-Essex County, Hamilton, Peel, Middlesex-London, and York.
