By any indication, Hamilton had an unusual volume of rain on Tuesday.

In truth, it appears to have been the wettest June 7 in three-quarters of a century. Environment and Climate Change Canada, the federal climate and weather agency, updates its data the following day. But weather historian Rolf Campbell said that according to his records, the 18.0 millimetres of rain that accumulated in Hamilton by 2 p.m. made it the fourth-rainiest June 7 in the city’s history.

The city was under a weather advisory for much of the day.

The last time more rain fell on that date was in 1947, 75 years ago, when 25.7 mm of precipitation accumulated. One has to go back more than a century for the top two days that were only nice for the ducks — 29 mm in 1917, and 39.9 in 1913.

The federal data shows Hamilton has already had three days this month with at least 10 mm of rain. On Monday, 10.5 mm fell, and there was 10.2 mm on June 1.

Last year, it took until June 26 to have three days in the month with at least 10 mm of rain.

In June 2020, there were only two such days. There were five in 2019, with the third occurring on June 13.
