May is Asian Heritage month and some Hamilton eateries and one of the city’s favourite foodies have come together to offer a special giveaway in honour of the occasion.

Joyce Leung, who is more widely known as food blogger Joyce of Cooking, has partnered with Asian-owned food businesses across Hamilton to highlight the goods and services of these establishments and to celebrate the local Asian community.

“For the whole month, let’s celebrate innovation and perseverance of our Hamilton Asian community,” Leung said in a social media post announcing the giveaway.

“There are so many wonderful Asian owned food businesses in Hamilton and I am sure I missed some still.”

A prize pack worth more than $1,000 is up for grabs for Joyce of Cooking’s Asian Heritage Month Giveaway and features gift cards and delicious eats and goodies from some of the dozens of local Asian-owned businesses.

To enter the giveaway, participants must support one of the listed (or unlisted) Asian-owned businesses in Hamilton, take a picture of their meal and follow and tag Joyce of Cooking on Instagram.

A winner will be randomly selected on June 1 and will be informed via Instagram.

May was officially declared Asian Heritage Month by the Federal Government in 2002. Many see this as a time to reflect on and recognize the contributions that Canadians of Asian heritage have made and continue to make to Canada.
