Strong winds, gusting up 70 kilometres per hour, are expected to hit Hamilton on Thursday (April 14).

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special weather statement for the city. There is a possibility of strong gusts both in the early morning and late afternoon, albeit it from different directions.

“Strong westerly winds gusting up to 70 km/h are expected early Thursday morning as a cold front moves through the region,” the statement reads. “Although the strong wind gusts may ease slightly in the early afternoon, winds are expected to shift to the southwest in the late afternoon with gusts up to 70 km/h possible. Winds are expected to ease slowly through Thursday evening.

“Strong winds combined with saturated ground conditions may make it easier for damage to trees to occur.”

It rained late on Wednesday night and there is a chance of further rain overnight, but it is expected to be clear for most of the day.
