Hamilton community asked to vote on new Locke Street public artwork installation
The City of Hamilton is inviting the public to provide input on four short-listed proposals for artwork at the corner of Locke and Jackson streets.

The City of Hamilton is inviting the public to provide input on four short-listed proposals for artwork at the corner of Locke and Jackson streets.

The artwork “should be a landmark in keeping with Locke Street’s pedestrian character and celebrating the neighbourhood’s collaborative and welcoming spirit,” according to the city.

The artists were invited to develop a proposal that reflects and enhances the neighbourhood spirit of local collaboration, encourages discovery and interactivity for all ages, and celebrates the unique natural topography and escarpment green space.

Artists will be selected by a citizen jury through a two-stage process involving a concept and design proposal, followed by public consultation on selected artists’ detailed proposals.

Twenty-two stage one submissions were received for the project. The four highest-scoring artists or artist-led teams were shortlisted by a citizen jury and invited to submit a stage two submission.
