Hamilton city councillor to take sick leave

A Hamilton city councillor announced Friday (March 26) that he would be taking a sick leave as he recovers from an undisclosed illness.

In a statement issued Friday morning, Ward 14 councillor Terry Whitehead said that he was currently under a doctor’s care and taking leave to focus on his recovery.

“It is my hope, and with prayer, that my recovery period will be short, and I’ll come back stronger and better to champion issues that are important to this community and the residents I represent,” he said.

Whitehead has been absent from council and committee meetings for the last couple of months due to illness.

In Friday’s statement, he encourages his constituents to continue to reach out to his office with any concerns.

“My staff are in the office throughout the week to address your questions and concerns and they are well versed in handling any issue you may bring to them,” he said.

“Should there be any complex political matters that require involvement of a Council member, my staff will defer to the Ward 6 (Tom Jackson) or Ward 12 (Lloyd Ferguson) offices for support as needed.”
