A Hamilton high school teacher has been arrested following an investigation into reports of sexual violence and harassment at a local Catholic school.

In a press release issued Thursday (Nov. 4), Hamilton Police said that 53-year-old Brian Boyle who is a teacher at Bishop Ryan and a resident of Hamilton, was arrested Wednesday after “several victims came forward” with reports of sexual assault.

Boyle is charged with:

  • Sexual Assault (x4)
  • Sexual Exploitation (x3)
  • Sexual Interference (x1)

Police said they opened the investigation recently after allegations of sexual violence and sexual harassment began circulating on social media about a Bishop Ryan Secondary School teacher.

“We want all survivors of sexual violence to know that we believe them and we will respect their choice in when they report an incident, where and how,” police said in the release.

Survivors are urged to report these crimes to the Hamilton Police Service by contacting the Sexual Assault Unit (non-emergency line) at 905-540-5553, or www.hamiltonpolice.on.ca to file an online report.

Boyle is scheduled to appear in court on December 6, 2021.
