Hamilton business rewarding those who kept their Zellers Club Z card

A Hamilton business is bringing back some Canadian retail nostalgia.

The year was 1986. James Cameron released his sequel to Alien, Canada participated in the FIFA World Cup for the first and only time, and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats actually won a Grey Cup.

1986 also marked the launch of the country’s most beloved points program: Club Z by Zellers.

Club Z became the HBC Rewards program in 2001 and Zellers eventually closed in 2013, but the memory of Club Z lives on in the hearts of many and Hamilton residents who held on to their cards are being rewarded.

Hammerheads, a seafood restaurant with locations on Ottawa and Locke St, is offering a 10 per cent discount to those who still have a Club Z card.

The promotion is valid on Thursday (Dec. 16).

“We were disappointed when Zellers announced they were closing making our Club Z points worthless,” wrote Hammerheads in an Instagram post. “However that will all change… Show us your Club Z card and receive 10% off your bill.”

Hudson’s Bay attempted to dip into the Zellers nostalgia earlier this year with a pop-up at Burlington Centre. But even they weren’t accepting Club Z cards.
