Logan Morrison might be wishing February was a longer month, since it has been such a productive one for the Hamilton Bulldogs’ No. 1 centre.

Morrison has earned Ontario Hockey League player of the week honours for the second time in three weeks, after scoring four goals, nine assists and 13 points in four games between Feb. 21 and 27. The offensive push led by the Morrison-Mason McTavish-Avery Hayes line helped Hamilton go 4-0 and up their league-best point percentage .723. The Bulldogs (32-11-2-2) and the Mississauga Steelheads (31-14-1-5) are level on points with 68, but Hamilton holds four games in hand.

As a 19-year-old who has been NHL draft-eligible for two seasons, Morrison is trying to earn a pro opportunity for next season. The 6-foot, 180-pound Guelph native attended training camp last fall with the Los Angeles Kings. This season, Morrison is sixth in OHL scoring with 75 points (23 goals-52 assists) across 41 games. He also has a league-best +39 plus/minus rating.

Morrison had at least two points in all four Hamilton wins last week. He had four points in both the Bulldogs’ 7-2 win against a strong North Bay Battalion club last Friday, and in a 10-2 win against the Niagara IceDogs’ on Sunday. In between, he also set up defenceman and Oakville native Nathan Staios’ overtime winning goal during a 4-3 win against the Ottawa 67’s last Saturday, where Hamilton surmounted a two-goal third-period deficit.

Staios was also a finalist for the award after counting nine points in four games, including a hat trick against Ottawa. Guelph Storm defenceman Michael Buchinger was also considered after recording 11 points over four games to help Guelph earn 7-of-8 possible points.

Morrison was also player of the week during the Feb. 7-13 timeframe.

Hamilton hosts Mississauga and Ottawa at FirstOntario Centre on Thursday and Friday in a pair of 7 p.m. starts. The Bulldogs are also two weeks away from meeting the Oshawa Generals in an outdoor game at Tim Hortons Field on March 14.
