Hamilton begins 10-month-long reconstruction project on Southcote Road

The first phase of the Southcote Road reconstruction project will get underway on Monday (Jan. 9), and the City of Hamilton says all lanes will be closed for approximately three months.
A 350-metre stretch of Southcote will be closed between the 403 overpass and Calder St.
Work is expected to be completed by mid-April.
The scope of the project includes the following:
- Road widening and reconstruction
- Storm sewer replacement and installation
- Watermain reconstruction and installation
- Multi-use path and sidewalk installation
- Road resurfacing and associated works
- The addition of three pedestrian crossings
During the first phase of work, the City has advised motorists to detour around the closure using Kitty Murray Ln and John Frederick Dr. to access Garner and Golf Links roads.
The next phase of work is scheduled to begin in April between Calder St. and Garner Rd. West and take approximately seven months to complete, spanning approximately 500 metres of the roadway.

The City says “intermittent closures” will occur as the work progresses southerly towards Garner.
“Residents in the area will be advised of these impacts in advance,” says City staff.
Bus routes are not expected to be impacted by this work.
