An apartment fire on Hamilton Mountain caused upward of $200,000 damage on Tuesday night (Jan. 4), the fire department said.

A fire broke out in a ninth-floor unit in an apartment tower at 180 Limeridge Rd. W. early in the evening. Residents were able to evacuate without any reported injuries, and Hamilton Fire Department firefighters had quelled the blaze and cleared the smoke by around 7:30 p.m.

The unit where the fire started sustained significant damage, which is estimated to be over $200,000. The HFD said residents would be allowed to re-enter later in the evening, after being offered temporary shelter inside of a Hamilton Street Railway city bus.
