Hamilton and Burlington in Ontario’s top 50 areas for highest COVID-19 rates

COVID-19 positivity rates are continuing to drop across most of the province, although some areas are still reporting higher than average rates, including in Hamilton and Burlington.

Toronto-based research group ICES listed postal code areas in Ontario with the highest percent positivity rates for the week of June 27 to July 3.

Of the top 50 listed, two are in Hamilton and two are in Burlington:

L7M, Burlington at 4.27%
35th highest percent positivity area in Ontario

L9A, Hamilton at 4.02%
40th highest percent positivity area in Ontario

L8L, Hamilton at 4.02%
41st highest percent positivity area in Ontario

L7S, Burlington at 3.53%
49th highest percent positivity area in Ontario

Out of Ontario’s 34 public health units, Hamilton has the 4th highest COVID-19 percent positivity at 1.93%, while Halton is listed 9th at 1.38%.

Ontario overall is listed 13th at 1.16%.

For all Ontario residents, the percent positivity among those tested for COVID-19 during the week of June 27 was 1.2%, compared to 1.7% during the week of June 13.

Ontario has reached 75% overall vaccine coverage (at least one dose) among those aged 12 and up as of July 4, 2021.
