The Halton District School Board recently announced several new appointments for roles that cover students in Milton, Oakville, Burlington and Halton Hills.

Current HDSB superintendent Tina Salmini has been appointed to the role of associate director, where she will lead and oversee the operations of schools, research, system-wide initiatives and support the senior team.

Nick Frankovich, Jennie Petko and Jonathan Shoss are the successful candidates in the superintendent hiring process. These four appointments fill vacancies created by Salmini’s promotion and other retirements.

“Nick, Jennie and Jonathan will be tremendous additions to the senior administrative team,” said Curtis Ennis, director of Education for the HDSB. “They bring deep teaching, administrative and leadership experience.”

Salmini joined the HDSB in 2006 as a school administrator and was appointed Superintendent of Education in 2014. She has served as a liaison for the Halton Elementary Principals’ Association and the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario.

Frankovich became a teacher in 1997 and joined the HDSB in 2005 as an elementary school administrator. During his time as a school principal, Nick has worked closely with community organizations to eliminate barriers for students at school and home. He is a strong proponent for outdoor education and has supported several outdoor learning experiences for schools.

Petko has been an elementary teacher and administrator in the Toronto District School Board for 21 years in six diverse schools. Her latest role is in a system capacity as Principal of Special Education and Inclusion.

Shoss arrived in the HDSB in 2010 after several years as a teacher and administrator in both the Peel and Toronto district school boards. He was the Principal of Burlington Central HS where he oversaw the renewal, innovation and community reengagement for the Grade 7-12 school.
