The Town of Halton Hills is encouraging residents to be responsible pet owners after receiving complaints about unleashed canines and barking dogs.

“We know our residents love their pets and we want to support them,” said Susie Spry, Manager of Enforcement Services.

“One of the ways we do this is for dog owners to get a dog license which is mandatory under the Town’s Responsible Pet Owners By-law 94-077. This makes it easier to reunite you with your pet in the event your dog goes missing.”

Dog owners are also responsible for ensuring that their pets are leashed in public areas.

Residents interested in letting Fido stretch their legs off-leash are asked to utilize one of the three designated leash-free areas, which are located at:

  • Cedarvale Park, 181 Main St. S., Georgetown
  • Prospect Park, 30 Parking Ave., Acton
  • Trafalgar Sports Park, 11494 Trafalgar Rd., Esquesing

“We all want the best for our pets,” said Mayor Ann Lawlor. “And that means adhering to the by-laws that are in place to limit issues while allowing our four-legged friends to run and play.”

  • Contact Omega Canine Control (a 24-Hour Emergency Service) at 905-877-6235 to report:
  • A dog running loose
  • If your pet was bitten by another animal
  • A suspected case of animal rabies
  • A stray dog

Contact Animal Protection at 1-833-9-ANIMAL (264625) if concerned for the welfare of an animal including one that is in distress, being abused, injured or in pain.

Dog licenses can be obtained through the Town’s website or in person at Town Hall during regular business hours.
