The Halton Hills Public Library will be hosting a display in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The display, which will run from now until July 4, will be located inside the Local History Room of the Georgetown Branch on the lower level of the library and will include memorabilia related to the coronation and other jubilee events.

Canada is recognizing the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II which marks her 70th anniversary on the throne.

She is the first to celebrate a platinum jubilee due to being Canada’s longest-reigning Sovereign.

“Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is an icon, and, for many Canadians, she is the only Sovereign they have ever known.  This anniversary means a lot to many Halton Hills residents,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette.

To honour this milestone, the colour guard, made up of members from both the Georgetown and Acton branches of the Royal Canadian Legion, will join the Town for a raising of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee flag at Town Hall on May 30 at 9:30 a.m.

Local community groups, Light Up the Hills and the Georgetown Pipe Band have all come together to illuminate the ‘Tree of Hope” as well as offer music in recognition of the occasion.

This event will take place at Dominion Gardens Park in Georgetown on June 2 at 9:15 p.m.

The ‘Tree of Hope” will be lit up throughout the month of June until July 2.
