In his latest monthly message, Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette said he was “truly thankful” for the opportunity to have been the Town’s mayor for 19 years.

On Dec. 14, 2021, Mayor Bonnette announced that he would not be seeking re-election during his State of the Town Chamber of Commerce address.

Bonnette, who has been a lifelong resident of Halton Hills, has served the community as Mayor since 2003.

He was first elected to Council at the age of 27 and in 2013 and was honoured by the Town for his 30 years with the municipality.

“I am truly thankful for having the opportunity to be your Mayor going in to my 19th year.  In case you have not heard, I announced on December 14 that I will not be seeking re-election,” said Bonnette in his monthly message.

“It will be 40 years this fall that I have served on Council. Prior to be being elected to Mayor in 2003 I was a Regional and Local Councillor since 1982.”

Over the years, Bonnette has championed his ‘green’ initiatives and has led a council team whose priorities include sustainable development, fiscal prudence and communications.

“It has been a privilege and an honour to serve this wonderful Town as your Mayor for this long. I am truly humbled by it,” the Mayor added in his statement.
